Canine Sports & Competition

Competitor. Handler.
Decoy. Helper. Trainer.

Jeremy’s background includes extensive experience in canine sport as a competitor, handler, trainer, decoy, and helper.

He has competed and titled dogs in IGP and PSA, in addition to experience across Iron Dog, Real Dog, Mondioring, and French Ring, and working with KNPV clubs in the Netherlands.

A distinguishing part of Jeremy’s competitive experience is that much of the preparation and development of his dogs has been completed independently rather than through continuous membership in a traditional working-dog club.

IGP

BH-VT, IGP1, IGP2 & IGP3

One of Jeremy’s most significant competitive achievements came in IGP, the international working-dog sport that evaluates dogs across three phases: tracking, obedience, and protection.

Working with his dog Recoil, Jeremy progressed through:

BH-VT
IGP1
IGP2
IGP3

Jeremy trained and prepared Recoil through the progression from BH-VT to IGP3 in approximately six months, culminating in an IGP3 performance that earned High in Trial. Throughout the BH-VT-to-IGP3 progression, Jeremy and Recoil consistently achieved competitive results, taking home trophies at nearly every competition they entered.

Jeremy completed the majority of Recoil’s training and competition preparation independently, without the day-to-day training structure of a dedicated IGP club—an especially difficult accomplishment in a sport that requires proficiency across tracking, obedience, and protection.

This experience gave Jeremy practical knowledge of the complete IGP development process, including tracking, competitive obedience, protection work, trial preparation, problem-solving, and preparing a dog to perform reliably under the pressure of competition.

PSA

Protection Sports Association

Jeremy has also competed and titled dogs in PSA (Protection Sports Association), a demanding protection-dog sport designed to test obedience, control, environmental stability, courage, and protection work through challenging and unpredictable trial scenarios.

His PSA experience includes competing and titling with his Pit Bull, Achilles, at a time when Pit Bulls were relatively uncommon in PSA competition. Jeremy and Achilles later progressed to competing at PSA Level 2, continuing to train and compete at the more advanced levels of the sport.

Although Jeremy’s goal was to continue pursuing PSA Level 3, a demanding professional schedule combined with the limited number of PSA trials available in Canada made it difficult to consistently access the competitions required to continue that progression.

Competing at PSA Level 2 provided Jeremy with extensive hands-on experience preparing for advanced protection scenarios, environmental pressure, obedience under distraction, control during high-drive work, and transitioning a working dog between intense engagement and handler control.

PSA played an important role in Jeremy’s development as a competitor, handler, decoy/helper, and working-dog trainer and contributed significantly to the training philosophy he later developed through BulletproofK9s.

Beyond IGP & PSA

More Sports. More Systems.

Iron Dog

Iron Dog Competition

Jeremy has competed extensively in Iron Dog, including competing with multiple dogs.

Across different competitions and different dogs, Jeremy has earned the Hardest Hitting Dog award multiple times.

These results reflect his experience developing confident, powerful working dogs capable of committed engagement while maintaining the control and training necessary for competitive working-dog environments.

Real Dog

Real Dog

Jeremy has also competed and earned titles in Real Dog, further expanding his experience beyond a single protection-sport system.

Competing across different organizations and rule structures has allowed him to work with dogs under varying exercises, environments, judging criteria, and performance expectations.

Additional Training

Mondioring & French Ring Experience

In addition to the sports in which he has formally competed and titled dogs, Jeremy has trained and participated in Mondioring and French Ring.

Both disciplines have contributed to his understanding of advanced obedience, jumping, environmental challenges, decoy work, protection exercises, control under high levels of stimulation, and the development of dogs capable of performing complex tasks while maintaining clarity.

International

KNPV Working-Dog Experience in the Netherlands

Jeremy's working-dog education has also taken him internationally.

He has worked with KNPV clubs in the Netherlands, providing direct exposure to Dutch working-dog culture and the training and development systems associated with KNPV dogs.

This international experience has helped shape Jeremy's broader approach to working-dog development by allowing him to study and work around different training systems rather than limiting his education to a single sport, organization, or methodology.

Independent

Independent Working-Dog Training

A significant part of Jeremy's development as a competitor has come through independently training and problem-solving with his own dogs.

Rather than relying exclusively on established club training systems, Jeremy has developed much of his competition training himself—from foundation work through advanced obedience, tracking, protection, trial preparation, and problem solving.

This experience has influenced the training philosophy behind BulletproofK9s: developing dogs that are confident, clear-headed, functional, controllable, and capable of performing under pressure.

In The Field

Decoy, Helper & International Work

Alongside competing and handling his own dogs, Jeremy has worked as a decoy and helper for other handlers, and has trained with working-dog clubs and trainers outside Canada.
