Specialized Training

Service Dog Training. Built to Standard.

We train service dogs to real public-access standards — not just well-behaved pets with a vest. From psychiatric support to mobility assistance, every dog we produce is task-trained, handler-integrated, and built for life in the real world.

What We Do

Real Service Dogs
Real Standards.

A service dog is a medical device, not an accessory. The difference between a well-trained pet and a true service dog is the depth of obedience, the reliability of public access behaviour, and the precision of specific trained tasks — all executed calmly under the most demanding real-world conditions.

At Bulletproof K9s, we approach service dog development with the same methodology we use for law enforcement and protection work: clear criteria, systematic proofing, and zero shortcuts. If the behaviour isn't reliable under pressure, it doesn't count.

Psychiatric

Our Process

Six Phases.
One Reliable Dog.

Service dog development is a long-term commitment measured in months, not weeks. Here is how we get there.

01

Candidate Assessment

Not every dog is suited for service work. We evaluate temperament, nerve strength, drive, and biddability before committing to a training path.

02

Obedience Foundation

Rock-solid obedience is non-negotiable. Heel, sit, down, place, stay, and recall must be reliable under significant distraction before task work begins.

03

Public Access Training

We expose the dog to malls, transit, restaurants, hospitals, and crowds — building the calm, focused presence required of a true service animal.

04

Task-Specific Training

Custom task training is layered in once the foundation is solid. Tasks are shaped, chained, and proofed until they are 100% reliable on cue.

05

Handler Integration

A service dog is only as good as the handler partnership. We work extensively with you to ensure seamless communication and long-term success.

06

Ongoing Support

Service dog training is never truly "done." We provide follow-up sessions to maintain standards and address any issues that arise.

Public Access

The Bar Every Dog Must Clear.

A service dog must be welcome everywhere its handler goes. That means flawless behaviour in every environment, with every distraction, without exception.

Important

What You Need to Know.

How long does service dog training take?

Realistic timelines range from 18 months to 2+ years for a fully trained service dog. Any program promising a "ready" service dog in weeks is not producing dogs to a legitimate standard.

Can my current dog become a service dog?

Maybe. Temperament is everything. We conduct a thorough candidate assessment first — health, age, nerve strength, drives, and trainability all factor in. Not every dog is suited for this work, and that is okay.

What breeds do you work with?

We are breed-neutral and evaluate each dog individually. Labrador Retrievers, Golden Retrievers, Standard Poodles, and German Shepherds are common — but what matters most is the individual dog's temperament and drives.
