1) What can I expect from my dog after a board & train?
ANSWER: At the board & train the dog will learn a life of structure and good habits. Generally good habits take 28 days to become a actual habit if there is a 100% consistency. That does not mean there is no maintenance of these habits. What is does mean is that there is a level of understanding with good habits that need to be maintained for that dog by you, the handler. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO KEEP UP THE CONSISTENCY TO KEEP THE DOG IN GOOD STANDING.
2) Will you guide me thru the process?
ANSWER: Yes, there will be 3 private sessions with the dog and the handler after the training is over. These sessions are all on training the handler on how to handle their dog and show the handler how to use the tools given to replicate the training that the dog received when it with us.
3) What style of training do you use?
ANSWER: We have a balanced style of training. In a simplistic explanation, a reward/correction type of training. There ways of correcting without physical corrections like withholding food or a toy and rewarding with different types of rewards like toy or praise so its not as simple as a positive or negative reinforcement style of training. We train dogs the way a mother wolf would train her pups in the wild, using love and respect.
4) Is my dog too old for training?
ANSWER: No, your dog can be trained at any age provided that you, the owner, are willing to learn too.
5) How do I get the training process started?
ANSWER: The first step is to book a home visit or introduction session for your family and your dog to meet with. This will give us a chance to meet you and your dog in the dog’s natural environment and better assess its training needs. It will also give you an opportunity to meet us and get a better understanding of our philosophy and our training methods. This evaluation usually takes about one hour and can be scheduled by appointment only. Home visits are additional fee.
6) Do I really need 5 sessions?
ANSWER: Yes! It would be almost impossible to learn, assimilate, and practice each of the commands and elements of our training in just a single follow-up session – not to mention extremely exhausting for you and your dog. Our experience has shown that most owners require at least 5 lessons to become comfortable with and fluent in the training/communication process.
7) Do we guarantee your training?
ANSWER: We will guarantee that the dog will never revert to its previous behaviours – on the condition that the dog owner follows the training methods learned. The finished product will be seen in action before going home so all the proof is right there. It’s up to you to keep your end of the bargain.
8) Which program is right for my dog and me?
ANSWER: We offer three different programs, designed to suit every lifestyle. If you have the time, consistency, and the knowledge, Private Lessons is a good option. If your dog displays problems with housebreaking or aggression, the 31-day Board and Train program would be your best choice. In addition, if you are going on vacation or need to board your dog for an extended period of time, then the Board and Train program fits best, as you can have your dog trained while you are away!
9) How old is the right time to begin training?
ANSWER: Ten weeks is a good time to do one of the sessions to learn the fundamentals of luring and basic house manners. Sixteen months is a good time to start formal training.
